Two things stand out for us in this 1970’s hit from Gerry Rafferty. First, it speaks to the sense of purpose and focus women give men. Rafferty sings,

Threw away all those crazy dreams
I put them all behind
And it was you woman
Right down the line”
Second, it implies the importance of a woman’s trust to a man. If a woman trusts her man and doesn’t feed into his doubt about whether or not he can do whatever he is taking on its very empowering for him. As Rafferty put it below,
“‘Cause you believed in me through my darkest night
Put somethin’ better inside of me
You brought me into the light”
